Service Description
This tour is approximately 4 kilometres long and will take at least 2 hours, with some steep ascents and uneven trails. Leaving the picnic area in the front gardens of Belfast Castle at 2.00 pm, we have a brief history and orientation, looking out over lough, harbour and city. Up through Throne Park, alongside the Zoo, we will encounter fruiting bushes, hedgerow herbs, mature native trees, wild flowers and fungi, as well as practical, poisonous and medicinal plants galore. We then explore the diverse wildlife of upland heath and moorland, with maybe some bush craft down through Hazelwood Park as we forage our way back for 4.30. On average over 50 types of flora, fauna and fungi await to be discovered along the sides of the path. Although the seasonal varieties do change, the views will always be spectacular over city, shipyards and lough.
