Richhill Ramble
Richhill Castle Wood and Gardens: an ancient treasure to be discovered
Service Description
The gem in Richhill's crown is its castle, surrounded by its planned gardens created in a traditional style. An unlikely setting for foraging, you might think? Richhill Castle is full of surprises, however, and this tour digs up the unexpected foraging opportunities that can be found in a formal context. We also look at the arboreal surprises tucked away in the grounds of the castle, after which we explore ancient native woodland, in keeping with the growing rewilding movement in which nature is trusted to manage itself, and natural processes shape our landscapes and give us the good things in life. Parking is available around the castle grounds at the top of the hill, with refreshments and facilities nearby. We meet at the castle gates at 2.00 p.m. one Sunday per month. Come and join us!
